Thank you for being interested in  joining the Anti-Racism Focused Habitat Global Village Trip to Durban, South Africa in September 2020. We believe that this trip will be incredibly meaningful and impactful. We have been intentional to create a respectful and equitable journey so this not to be confused with a “service trip” or “Mission trip." We view this as a growth, learning and community experience.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out via email.  To confirm that you’ll join this team, register online at this registration link. Enter our team’s code: GV21246.

Fundraising:  The program donation for this trip is US $2,086. Your airfare and entry/exit fees are not included. The program donation is a sum that you fundraise in the same fashion your friends who do a Marathon or AIDS ride do. Less than half covers the team’s expenses while on the trip (accommodations, food, transport etc), and the rest is a donation to Habitat for Humanity South Africa so that they can continue to provide support to the communities in Durban. I know people often wonder how they will fundraise the Program Donation. Once you register, you will be given a link to create a Habitat fundraising page, sort of like a go fund me page, but internal to Habitat. This makes it easy for you to share the link on social media and via email. We are happy to give you some coaching on that part if you have questions. Karla, one of our team leaders, was able to raise over $4500 for her first trip and the required amount was only $1800. Fundraising email templates can be found here as well.

Other Financial Note: You are responsible for your airline ticket to and from Durban (King Shaka International Airport (DUR) out of your pocket, but once you arrive, ALL other expenses are taken care of aside from any trinket shopping you decide to do, if you decide to have an alcoholic drink with dinner or if you decide to extend your trip. From the moment you get to the airport in Durban, Habitat handles all transportation, meals and snacks, water and incidentals.

US and South Africa Anti-Racism Comparison: We are still in the process of working out the details for this optional (but highly recommended) portion of the trip. As of right now, you should plan an additional 3-4 days in country where we are planning to fly to Capetown for cultural experiences and anti-racism learning. We will keep you updated about this so you can know how to plan, but we will have these additional dates and fees no later than March so that you can be ready to purchase your flights by the end of March. So if you want to start taking a look at flights, you can expect the build itself to run from September 5-12 and the anti-racism leg of the trip to add on 3-4 more days. BUT PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE FLIGHTS YET. The team leads will reach out to you when it is time to book your flights to make sure ground transportation is scheduled and coordinated properly.

Donate To Help Send Me To Durban!
My partners and I will be take this opportunity to learn about South Africa's relationship with apartheid through an anti-racism perspective.
Please help make this happen!
